Violent sex offender walks into elementary school
RADFORD — A registered violent sex offender made it through a secure-entry doorway and walked into the main office of McHarg Elementary School on Thursday morning, where he spent several minutes there before being arrested by police in a parking lot outside the school.
Henry Alexander Lindsey Jr., 55, of Radford was apprehended at 11:15 a.m. without incident by two Radford City Police officers working as School Resource officers. According to police, there was no disruption to the school’s routine.
Police discovered illegal narcotics medicine in his possession. Lindsey was arrested and taken before a magistrate, where warrants were issued for being a violent sex offender on school property and for possession of a Schedule II narcotic. Lindsey is being held in New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin on no bond.
McHarg has a controlled entry system. School employees carry cards that are swiped, and visitors are buzzed in through an intercom. City of Radford Public Information Officer Jenni Wilder said Lindsey entered the school with the parent of a child attending the school.
McHarg Elementary School is at 700 12th St.
According to court records, Lindsey was convicted of rape on June 28, 1991. The victim was an adult. His address on the Virginia Sex Offenders and Crimes Against Minors Registry is listed as being on the 1700 block of Staples St.
