Veterans medical center director will leave

SALEM – The director of the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center is leaving to become director of the Portland, Ore., VA Medical Center.

John Patrick is expected to move to his new position in July at the level 1A, tertiary medical facility.

Carol Bogedain, the current associate director in Salem, will be the interim director until a new director for the Salem facility is selected.

According to VA officials, the Portland hospital is a 303-bed facility which serves as VA’s referral center for Oregon, Southern Washington, and parts of Idaho.

Patrick was appointed to the Salem VAMC directorship in January 2007. He began working for the VA in 1983 in Charleston, S.C.
