The All-Blue Ridge District football team was recently announced and William Byrd was well-represented. The Terriers had six first team selections, including two boys who were named first team both ways.
Seniors Derrick Palmer and Dustin Woods were both two-way first team selections. Palmer was named at quarterback on offense and defensive back on defense, while Woods was first team as a tackle on offense and a down lineman on defense.
Two other Terriers were also named to the first team. Brian Fuquay was first team at defensive back and Seth Webb was the first team punter. Fuquay is a junior and Webb is a sophomore.
Fuquay was also named to the All-District second team as a tight end. On defense junior Nick Janowicz was a second team selection at linebacker.
Northside dominated the special recognition honors. On offense Phillip Scott was Most Valuable Offensive back and Offensive Player of the Year, while Cameron Carter of Northside was the top lineman.
On defense Nick Sigmon of Northside was the top defensive back and the Defensive Player of the Year. Danie Shifflett of Alleghany took top defensive lineman.
Co-Coach of the Year selections were Burt Torrence of Northside and Rick Witt of Staunton River. Witt is a former assistant coach at William Byrd.
