Spruhan, Jack K.
Jack K. Spruhan, 86, long-time resident of Salem, passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011. He was born in Salem and took great pride in being a native Salemite. A son of the late Guy H. Spruhan Sr. and Wanetah Kleiser Spruhan, he had also resided in South Carolina prior to relocating to the Salem area many years ago.
A graduate of Virginia Tech, Jack was an avid Hokie. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and was employed with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for more than 36 years prior to retiring. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Salem, a lifetime member of the Salem Rotary Club and was Supervisor of Officiating for ODAC for more than 10 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Guy H. Spruhan Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Wells Spruhan; two daughters, Patricia S. Guilds and Cynthia S. Kimball and her husband Paul; a grandson, John S. Kimball; two granddaughters, Anne K. Guilds and Emily J. Kimball; two great-granddaughters, Ashley and Morgan Guilds; a sister Betty Jeanne Waff and her husband William, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jack also leaves behind his beloved dog Hokie.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16, at First United Methodist Church in Salem. The Rev. Bobby Pickle will officiate.
