Smith, Jerry Richard
Jerry Richard Smith, 69, of Roanoke died March 24, 2010, in Salem. Survivors include his wife Kay Bunn Smith; son Matthew Roy Smith and wife Wendy Evans Smith; grandchildren Jarred Luke Evans, Sarah Lauren Smith, Thomas Richard Smith and Codi Ashley Moon; brother Kenneth Douglas Smith; nephews Todd A. Smith and Mark E. Smith. Richard was a long time member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was secretary of the church school; he was also a member of the Roanoke Choral Society and the Thursday Morning Music Club Choir. He taught in the Roanoke City School System for over 20 years, mostly at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School. A memorial were conducted March 28 at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Robins officiating. Interment was on March 27 at Mt. View Cemetery in Bristol, Va. Memorials may be made to Greene Memorial Fine Arts Series or to WVTF Public Radio.
