Service Saturday for former GHS band director
GLENVAR – A memorial service will be held tomorrow, June 16, at 11 a.m. at Glenvar High School Auditorium for the school’s former band director, Wilber E. Grant who died June 13.
Music and birding were the life of Grant, 73, who was currently directing the Roanoke Valley Community Band, as well as conductor and president of the Kazim Shrine Band, and director of the Old Pros of Dublin. He taught music in Virginia public schools for 34 years.
Grant was featured as the “Bird Man of Glenvar” in feature article in March 2009 issue of the Salem Times-Register because of his birding and bird-counting activities in the Roanoke Valley and elsewhere.
