Lloyd Sawyers Shockley, 86, died February 17, 2010, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center. He was was born in Max Meadows, and served his country for 21 years in the U.S. Army and Reserve. Mr. Shockley moved to Salem in the 1950s and was an Exxon dealer in the Salem area for 37 years. He was a long-time member of Salem Baptist Church, the Berean Sunday School class, and American Legion Post No. 3. He was predeceased by 11 siblings, his wife, Treva; and sons Lloyd Wayne, and Norman. Survivors include his wife of 13 years who was his best friend, Frankie; special cousin Virginia Perdue and husband, Stanley; several nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Dot Franklin and Peggy Buck of Radford and Francis Parks of Atlanta. Interment was held on February 22 in Sherwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Everett Kier and the Rev. Lew Bennett officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Lloyd’s name to the Salem Baptist Church Missions Fund at 103 N. Broad St., Salem, Va. 24153 or to a charity of your choice.
