Rt. 311 reopens after fatal crash
ROANOKE COUNTY – The road between Catawba and Craig County reopened early this afternoon, after a two-vehicle crash that killed one person and injured four others.
Roanoke County Police said a Jeep and a pickup truck hit head around 9 a.m. today on Rt. 311, Catawba Valley Road, and the Jeep caught fire. Police said one person died, one was flown by helicopter to the hospital and three others were taken to the emergency room by ambulance. Police have not released names of any of them.
The accident happened near the Catawba Grocery, close to the Roanoke County-Craig County line. Traffic was detoured for more than three hours on secondary roads, including Rt. 620.
