Surface had the best game of her young career.

The junior had a career high 24 points, hitting nine of 17 shots from the floor. She also had five assists and five steals.

“She just had a great all-around game,” said Craig coach Donald Eggleston. “We were waiting for her to have a game like that.”

Tonya Gardner and Caitlin Bellassai had eight points and four assists each for the Rockets as Craig jumped to an early 15-5 lead. The Rockets were up 29-14 by intermission and put it away when they outscored the Rams, 18-5, in the third quarter.

The win improved the Rockets to 3-6 overall and it was Craig’s first win in the Pioneer District.

The girls were at Bath County Tuesday, but results were too late for publication.

Craig is back home on Thursday night to host Covington.

Next week the girls are at Narrows on Monday, then at James River on Wednesday, January 27, before returning to host Parry McCluer on Friday, January 29.
