CHRISTIANSBURG — Traffic near Roanoke Street and the Route 460 interchange was slowed Tuesday morning after a wreck involving a van and a motorcycle.

At approximately 7:06 a.m., police say a van was turning left onto the 1600 block of Roanoke Street (in front of Gateway Plaza) and did not see the motorcycle traveling on Roanoke Street.

The adult male driving the motorcycle was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. His injuries are unknown as of press time. The van driver was not injured.

The four-lane road was initially closed in both directions, but by 8 a.m. one lane in each direction had been reopened. By 9 a.m., all lanes were open to traffic.

There was a strong smell of gasoline as crews worked to clean up the fuel off the asphalt in the rain.

Charges are pending against the van driver.
