Putting Bull’s Tail on the map
CRAIG COUNTY – You could call Gene Francisco the mayor of Bull’s Tail. That’s what most everybody in the vicinity calls him.
For years Francisco, who is 87, has talked about putting up a sign for the community at the end of Patton Drive in Craig County.

Francisco said he had seen a similar sign near Wilmington, N.C., where his daughter lives, and he liked it.
So Bill Lyle, who has a weekend and summer home in the little community that Craigs Creek runs through, took the bull by the tail. He had a friend paint the sign and then erected it up the road from Francisco’s house.
The sign reads, “Welcome to Bull’s Tail” Population: a few. Gene Francisco Mayor, Charlie Henderson, Vice Mayor and Bill Lyle, Police Chief.”
Francisco is a frequent sight on the private road in his golf cart, surveying his “town.”
Buchanan resident Lyle says before Bull’s Tail was “incorporated,” it was formerly called Leo Price Subdivision.
