Price bags 400-plus pound record bear

By Gwen Johnson

NEW CASTLE – The day after Christmas found Glen Price of Blacksburg and his buddies from the Catawba Valley Bear Hunters Club taking advantage of the unseasonably nice weather to bear hunt.

Using a 30-30 rifle, Price shot and killed what is believed to be a record bear for Craig County that weighed in at 431 pounds and was about 6-½ to 7 feet tall. However, he gives all the credit for bagging the bear to his 10-year-old hound dog.

“If it hadn’t been for him I wouldn’t have found him,” Price said.
