Official: Radford University fire may be arson

By Brian Perdue

A fire in a Radford University dormitory is under investigation for possible arson, an official said.

Two engines and a ladder truck from Radford Fire Department responded to a report of a fire Dec.9 on the Radford University campus, said RFD Chief Lee Simpkins.

According to Simpkins, the fire was composed of burning rugs in an elevator shaft in the east wing of Muse Hall. The fire took less than a minute to extinguish, but RFD personnel remained on the scene to help ventilate the dormitory and reset the fire alarm.

The nature of the fire made it suspicious, Simpkins said.

“It was definitely not an electrical fire,” he said.

According to Simpkins, the Radford University Police Department is handling the investigation.
