More charges for man accused of grabbing college student
SALEM – More charges have been filed against a 25-year-old Roanoker accused of sexually grabbing a male Roanoke College student. Now Hung Phi Nguyen has been charged with impersonating a police officer.
Today a second charge of impersonating a police officer was filed against Nguyen.
Initially, he was accused of grabbing a 19-year-old Roanoke College male student on Sept. 3.
Salem Police arrested Nguyen on the Roanoke College campus at 1 a.m on Sunday, Sept. 11.
But the next day at 2 p.m., Nguyen was arrested again, according to Salem Police, and charged with the first count of impersonating a law enforcement officer.
Police said that on Sept. 3, a man police believe was Nguyen tried to get Roanoke College students’ attention by calling them to his car and telling them he was a police officer.
They reported the encounter to Roanoke Roanoke College Campus Security.
At 2:10 a.m. that same day, the 19-year-old told police a man grabbed at him while he was walking down an alley near North Market Street.
College officials said later a different student had told campus security on Sept. 1 that a man who met Nguyen’s description propositioned him for sex. The complaint was not passed along to Salem Police, officers said.
Police said Nguyen was booked on the charges at the Roanoke County-Salem Jail and released on bond.
