Moore, John P. “Brother John”

John Paul Moore, “J.P or Brother John,” 71, of Lake Charles, La., died on April 24, 2012 in his residence.
Mr. Moore was born Jan. 13, 1941, in Roanoke and was a 1959 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving with the 5th Special Forces Unit Green Berets.

He graduated from McNeese State University with a BA degree in Economics and a BS in Pre-Med. He worked at City Service PCD Lab as an Analyst and at Conoco Phillips in the Sour Crude Unit.

Mr. Moore served as an usher at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, where he was a very active member. He was involved in several church ministries, including the prison ministries, the Gideons, and RTF. He loved the wilderness, hunting, camping, and adventure and will always be remembered for his storytelling.

Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 28 years, Nyhlia Newsome Moore of Lake Charles; children Maureen Joyce and husband Ben Bell of Baton Rouge, La.; Chaffin Florice and wife Christal of Tallulah, La., and David E. Moore; siblings Drew Moore of Cape Coral, Fla.; Dave Moore and wife Betty of Virginia Beach and Munsey Moore and wife Linda of Chase City; and grandchildren Louis and Sophia Mouk and Alana and Rachel Florice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Munsey and Bernice Thompson Moore; brother Thomas Lee Moore and his grandfather who raised him, D. E. Moore.

A funeral service was held April 28 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Charles. The Revs. Gary Evers and Lewis Jackson officiated, with burial following in Crowne Point Cemetery in Sulphur, La.
