Mongan, Brenton Sylvester
Brenton Sylvester Mongan, 76, of Phoenix, Ariz., went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 09, 2010. He was born and raised in Salem where he played football for Andrew Lewis High School. He went on to play football for the University of Richmond but graduated as a Hokie from Virginia Tech in 1959.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Inge, and father, Dennis Mongan; brother Dennis Mongan Jr., sisters Kitty Prime, Juanita Campbell and Betty Irish. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Mongan, sons Brenton Lee Mongan of Naples, Fla.; Quinn and his wife Lisa Mongan of Salem, daughter Martha and husband Walter Wolsky of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister Jennie Sires, grandchildren Quinn, Kayla, Bronte and Cameron Mongan.
Brenton was a true survivor who bravely battled cancer for the last two years. He will be remembered by his family as always loving and someone you could turn to for advice or if you needed it he was there just to listen. He had a generous heart and was always willing to help others in need and to that end he has donated his body to science so that he may continue to help others.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
