Paul Jackson Mills, 81, of Martinsville died Feb. 19, 2012 at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Born in Madison, N.C., on February 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Charlie Mills and Callie Smith Bumpus.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his step-father, the Rev. Thomas Bumpus and step-mother, Frances Mills; son Doyle Mills; grandson Christopher Mills and half-brother Norwood Bumpus.
Paul was in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict where he was a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and a glider pilot. He was a retired employee of Virginia Carolina Freightliner. Surviving is his loving wife, Bertie Mills, of the home; sons and daughters–in–law Thomas and Karen Mills of Danville, David and Wanda Mills of Martinsville; step-son Alan Huffman of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, J.P. Huffman, Jason Mills, Cody Franklin, Jacob Mills, Brandi Mills, Kayla Stone and Ashlyn Mills.
In addition, Paul is survived by a half-brother, Scott Mills of Madison, N.C.; two half-sisters, Shirley Fink of Martinsville and Linda Lawson of Madison, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Feb. 23 in the Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service with Pastor Larry Luffman officiating. Burial followed at Roselawn Burial Park with full military honors conducted by the Martinsville and Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
