Inmate on life support after suicide attempt
ROANOKE COUNTY – An inmate in the Western Virginia Regional Jail is on life support, after attempting to hang himself in the jail.
Officials of the jail located in western Roanoke County near Dixie Caverns said inmate Gregory Preston Beasley made the suicide attempt May 25. Correctional officers doing routine security rounds found Beasley and jail staff immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
He was transported to LewisGale Medical Center, jail officials said, where he remained on life support on May 26.
Beasley was serving a two-month sentence for violating a protective order in Roanoke County.
