I-81 blasting causes rock to block roadway

By Montgomery Publishing
During a blasting operation earlier this morning as part of the construction project to build a truck climbing lane on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County, a large boulder unexpectedly fell into the roadway.

Traffic on southbound I-81 is currently stopped while traffic control devices are put in place to establish a left lane closure at mile marker 123.  Crews are working to install the left lane closure as quickly as possible to get traffic moving.

The left lane closure will remain in place while construction crews remove the boulder.  Drivers on southbound I-81 should expect delays.

No estimated time for removing the large rock has been established at this time.
