SALEM – The former chair of the Salem Publican Committee, Greg Habeeb, announced today he is running for the House of Delegates’ seat Morgan Griffith will vacate when he becomes a United States Congressman in January.
Habeeb, Griffith and Sixth District Congressman Bob Goodlatte, a fellow Republican, were together this morning when Habeeb made his formal announcement at a press conference. It was held at the old Roanoke County Courthouse on Main Street in Salem.
On Nov. 2, Griffith won over longtime Democratic 9th District Congressman Rick Boucher, who represents part of Roanoke County, Craig County and to Abingdon, where Boucher lives.
The old courthouse is now part of Roanoke College. The current Roanoke County Courthouse next door is the traditional announcement location for Democratic candidates.
