Gibson-Thomas
Mike “Gibby” and Becky Gibson of Vinton are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Valerie Shay Gibson, to Matthew Elliott Thomas, son of Mark and Donna Thomas of Vinton.
Valerie is the granddaughter of Haywood and Betty Williams and John D. Gibson, all of Salem. Matthew is the grandson of Don and Ardella Hough and of Don and Judy Thomas, and great-grandson of Edith Dillard, all of Vinton.

Valerie and Matthew grew up across the street from each other on Tulip Lane and as children, they played “Hun,” which was similar to playing House but they called it “Hun” for “Honey.”
Valerie is a graduate of Salem High School and earned a B.S. in Health Science from James Madison University. She is currently attending Jefferson of Health Sciences to specialize in physical therapy.
Matthew graduated from William Byrd High School and has completed his training as a sheriff’s deputy. He is currently employed by the Roanoke City Jail. He also volunteers as a firefighter for the Vinton Fire Department.
Their wedding is planned for May 22.
