Former registrar Betty Williams dies

CRAIG COUNTY – Funeral services for Craig County’s longtime voting registrar Betty Jo “Granny” Williams will be held on Friday, Oct. 12. Williams, who was 81 and had served as registrar for 28 years until recently, died on Oct. 9.

Visitation will be held on Oct. 11 at Paitsel Funeral Home in New Castle from 6-8 p.m.

In addition to being registrar, she was a longtime member and past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and an active member of Grace Baptist Church. She also bowled for more than 50 years.

Earlier this year, Williams received a commendation from the the Virginia Board of Elections for her years as registrar. She was one of the longest-serving registrars in the state.

Funeral services Friday will be at Grace Baptist Church with Pastors Jere King and Chet Roden officiating, and interment following at Paxton Chapel Church Cemetery.

Contributions in Williams’ name may be made to Carolyn Harless (owner of Locust Mountain Grill in New Castle)to help that family thru financial difficulties due to health issues. Money may be sent through Paitsel Funeral Home, P.O. Box 326 New Castle, VA
