Federal grand jury indicts man for drug trafficking

NEW CASTLE – As a result of what the Craig County Sheriff’s Office said was a year-long investigation, a federal grand jury indicted a 29-year-old New Castle man for drug trafficking involving heroin.

Sheriff Clifford Davidson identified him as Barry Monroe Owens Jr., and his address as 96 12th Street in New Castle. He was indicted on one count of drug trafficking and one of drug trafficking conspiracy of heroin.

A court date has not yet been set for Owens, who is being held in the Roanoke City Jail. The sheriff said Owens’ arrest came as the result of a combined investigation between the Craig County Sheriff’s Office, the New River Regional Drug Task Force and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.
