Electrical panel fire causes $40,000 damage to home
SALEM – A house on Golf Colony Drive had extensive smoke damage this morning from a fire investigators say started in an electrical panel.
Firefighters from Salem Fire & Emergency Medical Services found heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the home at 3164 Golf Colony Drive shortly before 8:25 a.m. Nov. 17. Crews found fire in the basement and first floor, according to a spokesman for Salem Fire & EMS, and were able to contain the flames to one room on each of the levels.
Seventeen firefighters, medics and volunteers from the Salem Rescue Squad responded to the fire. Roanke Fire & EMS Engine 13 provided staff to cover additional calls while Salem personnel were tied up at the fire.
The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office ruled the fire was accidental. Damage from extensive smoke and the fire in two rooms was estimated at $40,000. No one was in the house when the fire was called in.
