Downtown New Castle building burns
NEW CASTLE – An apartment on the second floor of an old building in downtown New Castle burned this afternoon, and the woman who lived there was airlifted to the University of Virginia for burn treatment.
Volunteer fire fighters were able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading beyond the building on Main Street where Charlton Real Estate is located on the ground floor.
Lifeguard 10 helicopter airlifted the resident to Charlottesville. Neighbors said she was Bonnie Williams. No immediate report on her condition was available.
Eight pieces of equipment responded.
