John Edward Day Sr., 73, of Craig County and Blacksburg passed away Dec. 10, 2010 after a lingering illness. He was born March 30, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burley W. and Ollie Mae Day; brothers Newton B. Day and James Franklin Day; grandson Kolton Day; great-grandson Anthony Dunbar, and his loving wife of 43 years, Faye Ann Day.
He is survived by his wife Patsy Day of Blacksburg, children James Whitten Day of New Castle, Debra Bradford and husband Glenn of Harrotate, Tenn.; and Craig County residents John Edward Day Jr., Elizabeth Bradford and husband Allen, Samuel Arthur Day and wife Candi, and step-daughter Karen Raines of Christiansburg; grandsons Casey, Charlie and Jacob Dunbar, James Whitten Day Jr., Josh, Joey and Matthew Jennings; special grand-daughter Katie Ann Day; step-grandchildren Cara and Joel Raines, great-grandsons Chance and Blake Day and Eli Dunbar.
He is survived by brother Henry Jesse Day and wife Eleanor of North Tazewll, sisters Tennessee Reynolds and husband Robert of New Castle and Nancy Turnage and husband Joseph of Lakeland, Fla.; sister-in-law Trula Day brother-in-law Junior Brumfield and wife Jenny. John had many family members, friends, acquaintances, trading buddies and guitar pickers in many places and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service was held Monday , Dec. 13, at the Day Family Cemetery on Johns Creek with the Rev. Bill Frazier and the Rev. Charlie Cooper officiating.
