Craig County in mourning after three girls killed, two hurt
CRAIG COUNTY – Craig County is in mourning today, after three young women were killed late last night and two more reported injured in an accident on Rt. 311 in “The flats,” a portion of the county near the rescue squad building.
The Craig County Schools Superintendent said he and other school officials will be at Carilion Medical Center in Roanoke today to see what he can do to help the families of the two girls who are being treated there, and the schools have called in counselors to meet with students. One of the accident victims is current student and the others are former Craig County High School students.
Superintendent Kelly Wilmore said he was notified of the accident at 5 a.m. today by Emergency Services Coordinator Jim Cady. Details about what happened in the accident around midnight are still unconfirmed.
More details will be coming as confirmed by Virginia State Police and Craig County rescue personnel. Sgt. Bob Carpentieri said he would be releasing information this morning, Monday.
