Classes cancelled at Blacksburg Middle due to gun discovery
BLACKSBURG – Blacksburg Middle School was evacuated today after school officials discovered weapons and ammunition on campus.
BMS officials and the school’s resource officer found two handguns and ammunition at 12:30 in the afternoon, said Lt. Joe Davis of Blacksburg Police. Police took a 13-year-old student into custody in connection with the incident.

Shortly after the weapons were discovered, K-9 units were dispatched to inspect the building for any other weapons, Davis said.
“We’ve got three different (dog)s from the state police and the New River Valley that are here and they’re on campus searching to see if there’s a possibility of any additional weapons on campus,” Davis said.
Evening classes for Blacksburg High School were cancelled as a precautionary measure, according to Montgomery County Public School officials. All classes and activities are scheduled to resume on their regular schedule tomorrow.
