By Staff Writer

CHRISTIANSBURG – Christiansburg Police have charged a Christiansburg High School teacher with allegedly having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student.

Diana Eckes Canter, 34 and from Christiansburg, was charged late Tuesday with eight (8) counts of custodial sexual intercourse with a minor.

The alleged incidents occurred between December 2008 and August 2009.  The investigation thus far indicates that none of the alleged crimes occurred on school property.

The alleged victim is no longer a student in the school system.  The victim will not be further identified due to the nature of the alleged crimes.

Canter posted a $5,000 secure bond and was released from Montgomery County Jail Tuesday.  If convicted, each Class 6 felony count carries a potential prison term of 1-5 years.

According to Montgomery County Schools, Canter was an 11th grade English teacher.  She resigned from her position Tuesday
