Carjacking thwarted in Salem
SALEM – Two women narrowly avoided having their vehicle carjacked Monday night in Salem.
Two out of four suspects were apprehended a few minutes later and arrested by Salem Police.
They were identified as Roanoke residents Jason Dale Thomas, 33, and Jarrell Antwan Snyder, 26. Salem Police said they were caught near the General Electric plant in Salem where four people abandoned the car and fled on foot.
Thomas and Snyder were charged with attempted carjacking, conspiracy to commit carjacking, use of a firearm while committing carjacking, two counts of attempted malicious wouding and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Thomas was also charged with failure to stop for police, and driving on a suspended driver’s license.
They are being held without bond in the Roanoke County-Salem Jail. Salem Police are looking into the identity of the other two occupants of the suspects’ car.
The two women told police they were sitting in a car about 10:40 p.m. on Otter Avenue, which two blocks from the Roanoke City Line and near National College, when two men – one with a gun – approached and tried to pull the women out of the car.
The women were able to drive away as one of the men fired a shot into the vehicle, they told police. One woman was slightly injured, possibly from shattered glass, police said.
The men fled west on East Main Street and then south on Electric Road with the victims following and calling the police.
