Busy week for Craig County boys

By Brian Hoffman

CRAIG COUNTY – The Craig County boys have a busy week with four games in six days as they try to pick up some wins. Craig comes into the week at 1-8.

The Rockets were at Narrows on Monday hoping to avenge a prior loss, but results were too late for publication. Today, Wednesday, Craig is home to Parry McCluer and on Thursday the girls and boys play a Pioneer District doubleheader at Highland County.

A big week wraps up with a home game against Montcalm on Saturday, and again it’s a doubleheader with the girls. The Craig girls will play at 5:30 pm, followed by the boys game.

“We need to pick up a couple wins this week,” said coach C.J. Crowder. “We should have some real competitive games.”

Last Friday in Buchanan the Rockets gave district favorite James River a scare before falling 65-42. Craig played the Knights even in the first half, trailing by just seven at the half, but the Knights broke it open after intermission, outscoring Craig 25-8 in the third quarter.

“We started off good but then they got a little bit of a run on us,” said Crowder. “The third quarter killed us.”

Andy McCarty led the Rockets with 15 points and a dozen rebounds and Forrest Morris had 13 points for Craig.
