Montgomery County Commonwealth’s Attorney Mary Pettitt announced today that felony attempted abduction charges against Arlex Cardenas Flores, 33, were certified to the grand jury following a preliminary hearing yesterday in General District Court.
During the preliminary hearing, witnesses testified that at approximately 2 a.m. on June 29, they saw a man grab a woman near Henderson lawn at Virginia Tech. As the man dragged her, the woman broke away and ran. Cardenas Flores was arrested after a witness provided the license plate number and a description of the truck to police.
The woman testified that she did not know Cardenas Flores prior to the attempted abduction. Cardenas Flores was employed as a construction worker at Virginia Tech at the time of his arrest.
Cardenas Flores remains in custody in jail awaiting the meeting of the grand jury in October. He faces up to 5 years in prison.
