Auburn second grader brings pellet gun to school

By Lauren Page

RINER – Montgomery County Sheriff’s officers responded to Auburn Elementary School Wednesday morning after receiving reports that a second grader had brought a pellet gun to school.

Sheriff’s officer Lt. Brian Wright said investigators reported that school officials learned about the gun after the student told some of his classmates that he had it. The gun, powered by CO2 cartridges, was not loaded, and no pellets or cartridges were found, Wright said. There appeared to be no malicious intent in bringing the gun to school, he said.

“It seemed like just a showing it type of thing,” Wright said.

No one was injured during the incident, Wright said.

Wright said he received reports that school officials locked the external doors shortly after the gun was seized as a precaution.
