BLACKSBURG – The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for missing 20-year old Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington increased by $50,000, made possible by a contribution from the popular rock band Metallica, according to findmorgan.com.
The contribution brings the total reward to $150,000.
Harrington disappeared around 9 p.m. on Oct. 17 during a Metallica concert at the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville. She became separated from her friends after leaving to use the restroom during the concert, according to police reports, but ended up outside the arena. Three days after her disappearance, Metallica added a post to their Web site titled “One Of Our Fans Is Missing”, which provided information on her disappearance, and stated that Metallica members are “deeply concerned” about Harrington’s disappearance.
“Our thoughts are with Morgan and her family for her safe return,” the post states.
Investigators said they located and interviewed various individuals who recalled seeing Harrington outside in the vicinity of the arena that night between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Her abandoned purse and cell phone were found in a nearby parking area Oct. 18, and were turned in to the University of Virginia Police.
Investigators stated last week that they had received more than 100 tips in the case. Surveillance video from the arena and businesses within the immediate area revealed nothing relevant to the investigation, investigators said.
Harrington was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with “Pantera” written on the front in tan letters. She also had on a black mini-skirt with black tights and knee-high black boots. She is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.
The public is still encouraged to call or e-mail with any information concerning Harrington and/or her whereabouts. A new Virginia State Police Tip Line phone number has been established (434) 352-3467. Information can also be e-mailed to state police at email@example.com.
