$5 rabies vaccination clinic will be April 16

By Meg Hibbert

A $5 rabies vaccination clinic will be held on Saturday, April 16, for Vinton, Roanoke County, Salem and Roanoke residents.

It will be at the Salem Civic Center, from 9 a.m.-noon for dogs and cats 3 months and older.

Pre-register by noon on April 13 at www.tinyurl.com/rabiesclinic2011, and print and bring completed registration form for each pet. Pets will be accepted for vaccinations on a first-come basis.

Dogs must be on leashes or in carriers. Cats have to be in carriers. Owners are responsible for controlling their animals and must pick up after them.

If it is a pet’s first vaccination against rabies, it will be valid for one year. In order to get a three-year vaccination, owners must bring previous valid vaccination certificates.

Payment is cash only. Treasurer’s office representatives from Vinton, Salem, Roanoke County and Roanoke City will be at the clinic to sell dog and cat tags.

For more information, call (540) 204-9764. The rabies vaccination clinic is being coordinated by the state health department and respective jurisdictions’ animal control.
